After being picked up from your hotel at around 07.30 we'll take the ferry across to Yavlova where the tour bus will be waiting to take you to Bursa. This large city, also known as Green Bursa in reference to its many parks and gardens and the vast forests in its surrounding region was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire between 1326 and 136 It became a major centre for silk manufacture, supplying the Ottoman palaces with silk products until the 17th Century. We will visit the Green Mosque and the Mausoleum of Sultan Mehmet I dating from the 15th Century, renowned for their exquisite decoration with Iznik tiles. Then we'll continue to the magnificent Great Mosque with its myriad minarets and towers. After stopping for lunch in a traditional restaurant where you will have the chance to try some of the mouth-watering local specialities (try the kebabs) we'll head to the historic Covered Bazaar and Koza Han, the impressive mediaeval silk market where merchants have met for centuries to trade silk and gossip. we'll take a cable car to up Mount Uludag for magnificent panoramic views. Then we'll to returning to Istanbul in the evening. |
